Story: Heretiks starts when Persephone (Arterton) is sentenced for witchcraft, and Reverend Mother (Higgins) saves her. She takes her to a remote convent for other fallen women. Here, Persephone meets other women who have seen the same fate and must learn about the convent.

As time passes by, Persephone learns the strict instructions placed upon the women. To make matters worse, there seems to be an evil presence in the convent that has been targeting the women. Persephone gets into a race against time to find a solution or face becoming the latest victim.

Verdict on Heretiks

Heretiks is a fantasy horror that takes us back to the 17th century. A time when witchcraft was openly used as an excuse to punish women. We find ourselves in a place that offers shelter for the accused, only for it to have a much darker meaning behind why the women are taken.

This takes us through a pure chaotic horror series of events but it does seem to happen too quickly to keep things contained. It is almost like they are unleashed once a new person came in, despite nobody else knowing what will happen. The balance between religion is used to create motivation and meaning behind what is happening. We have, however, seen this done before and in a much more interesting way. The performances are solid with the characters written to fill the generic roles within a horror movie.

Final Thoughts Heretiks is a by-the-book horror journey between religion and faith.
