Have a Healthier Thanksgiving Holiday

By Becca1122 @fitnesscrazedd

The holidays are quickly approaching, and this calls for a celebration. Thanksgiving is associated with a time for indulging with family and loved ones, but there are ways to prevent yourself from getting too carried away. Here are some small substitutes and changes you can make, to make a big difference.

1. Bring on the Turkey, Organic that is.
Organic pasture-raised turkey is packed with protein and vitamins, giving your body an extra boost. 4 ounces of turkey contains 30-35 grams of protein and less than 1 gram of total fat. Organic turkey usually carries a higher nutrient quality.

2. Go for a walk after dinner
We tend to overeat during the holidays, leaving us feeling groggy and tired. Pick a partner and plan to walk a mile after thanksgiving dinner, it will increase your energy levels and help you to feel refreshed.

3. Bake a healthy dessert
Dessert is always the best part, so why not make it good for your body? Apple pie and Pumpkin pie are two popular choices, and there are plenty of healthier recipes available on the web. You can find some great ideas on Pinterest and the Food Network.

4. Snack light and snack well
People often like to snack on finger foods while waiting for dinner to be prepared. If you plan to have guests over for Thanksgiving, think ahead and prepare a fruit and vegetable platter with greek yogurt for dipping. This is also easy to bring to a family or a friends place.

5. Stop eating when you are full
It is tempting to go overboard during the holidays, so mentally prepare yourself to stop eating when you are full. Prepare or eat foods that are high in fiber, which slows digestion making you feel fuller longer.
