Happy New Year, Porto!

By Gail Aguiar @ImageLegacy

A new year brings a new view of Porto in this recently-shot video of the city from the sky. Whether you’ve never been to Porto before and would like a preview of the city, or you’re a long-time resident who knows the architecture from the ground and would like to see the higher points at close range, this video delivers.

The film starts off following a tourist boat in the Douro River during the day (showing the Porto side), and it ends with a private craft traveling upriver after sunset (showing the Vila Nova de Gaia side) with night lights, followed by evening shots of the Christmas tree in front of City Hall. The drone passes quite close to the top of Clérigos Tower, over Sé (Cathedral), Luís I and Infante bridges, the monument at Rotunda da Boavista, around Casa da Música, and along the beaches of Foz.

Another interesting point for residents (besides the possibility of spotting your house) is that it shows the current status of large-scale construction projects and renovations around Porto center. The one downside to this video — for me — is that a single piece of music on loop is too repetitive for a video that’s nearly 11 minutes long. It is easily-remedied, however, with your own soundtrack or the mute button.
