The percentages expressed in these graphs represent each player's true shooting percentage. Instead of basing the percentage on shots that hit the net, this percentage is based on the number of shots each player attempted. Included here are shots on net, shots that are blocked, and shots that miss the net.
Each player's goal total was divided by their total attempted shots to determine the number in the graph below.
EVEN-STRENGTH SHOOTING PERCENTAGE
The shooting percentage expressed here is based on the number of goals scored at even-strength divided by the number of attempted shots at even-strength. Players with no green bar above their name did not score any even-strength goals during the 2011-12 season.
Travis Moen earned the highest true save percentage in 2011-12. Moen scored on 9.8% of his attempted shots (at even-strength). Other players with true shooting percentages above 4% include Petteri Nokelainen (5.4%), Brian Gionta (4.6%), Andrei Kostitsyn (5.1%), Blake Geoffrion (4.9%), Max Pacioretty (7%), Louis Leblanc (5%), Erik Cole (6.4%), and Lars Eller (4.7%). Among forwards who scored at least 1 ES goal, Aaron Palushaj (1.3%) had the lowest true shooting percentage.
Due to the fact that defensemen traditionally shoot from further away from the net than most forwards, their true shooting percentages are generally lower. Fred St. Denis (4%) had the highest ES shooting percentage among defensemen, followed by Chris Campoli (3.1%) and Tomas Kaberle (3%). Among defensemen who scored even-strength goals, PK Subban (0.9%) had the lowest true shooting percentage.
POWERPLAY SHOOTING PERCENTAGE
The shooting percentage expressed here is based on the number of goals scored on the powerplay divided by the number of attempted shots on the powerplay. Players with no green bar above their name did not score any powerplay goals during the 2011-12 season.
Lars Eller had the highest true powerplay shooting percentage. Eller scored with an incredible 22% of his attempted powerplay shots. Other players with impressively-high PP shooting percentages include Andrei Kostitsyn (19%), and Erik Cole (18%). Among forwards with at least 1 PP goal, Max Pacioretty (5.1%), who scored only 5 of his 33 goals on the powerplay, had the lowest true shooting percentage
Among defensemen with at least one powerplay goal last season, Yannick Weber (6.9%) had the highest true shooting percentage. Tomas Kaberle had the lowest (2.6%); slightly below Subban (3.1%).
