HABS: Shooting Success-rates at Even-strength

By Kicks @Chrisboucher73
Includes True-shooting percentage, percentage of shots blocked, percentage of shots that miss the net, 1-timers per-60, and deflections per-60
This post will focus on the shooting success-rates of Montreal Canadiens players at even-strength. It will communicate the percentage of shots that are on net, as well as the percentage that are either blocked by the opposition or miss the net.
I have also included graphs showing the number of 1-timers each player averages per-60 minutes of even-strength ice-time, as well as the number of deflections. Events from both the regular season and playoffs are included. A list of all the events tracked within my system can be found here.
PERCENTAGE OF ATTEMPTED SHOT THAT ARE ON NET
A player's success-rate when attempting to get shots through to the net is often a result of how far away from the net a player is when attempting a shot. As shown, defensemen produce the lowest success-rates in this category, while forwards are able to get a higher percentage of their attempted shots through to the net. Sample size also impacts the percentages shown here, as players with fewer shot attempts tend to have some of the highest success-rates.
Andrei Markov was able to get a higher percentage of his attempted shots through to the net than any other Habs defensemen, while Tinordi was able to get the lowest percentage of his shots through. Among centres, Ryan White was able to get the highest percentage of his attempted shots through, while Brandon Prust led all Habs players.

PERCENTAGE OF ATTEMPTED SHOTS THAT ARE BLOCKED BY THE OPPOSITION
The further a player is from the net when attempting a shot the more likely that shot is to get blocked by the opposition. As a result of this, defensemen led all Habs players in percentage of attempted shots blocked. Among defensemen, Douglas Murray, and Alexei Emelin had a higher percentage of their attempted shots blocked, while Josh Gorges and Markov had a lower percentage blocked.
Among forwards, Lars Eller and Brendan Gallagher had the highest percentage of their attempted shots blocked, while Travis Moen and Brandon Prust had the lowest percentage of their shots blocked.

PERCENTAGE OF ATTEMPTED SHOTS THAT MISS THE NET
Jarred Tinordi missed the net with over 35% of his attempted shots, while Murray, PK Subban and Markov missed the net with less than 20% of their attempted shots.
Among forwards, Travis Moen missed the net with a substantially higher percentage of his attempted shots than any other forward, while Brandon Prust missed the net with only 8.8% of his attempted shots.

EVEN-STRENGTH TRUE SHOOTING PERCENTAGE
True-shooting-percentage communicates the percentage of a player's attempted shots that result in a goal. This is calculated by dividing the number of goals scored by the total number of attempted shots (blocked, miss the net, on net).
Dale Weise produced the top TSP, but had a substantially smaller sample size. Among players with larger sample sizes, David Desharnais produced the top TSP among Habs players for the second-straight season. Other players with solid TSP's include Prust, Alex Galchenyuk, and Max Pacioretty.
Mike Weaver and Francis Bouillon had the top true shooting percentages among defensemen, but attempted substantially fewer shots than other Habs d-men. Among d-men with solid sample-sizes, Subban had the top TSP.

EVEN-STRENGTH 1-TIMERS PER-60
Emelin led all players in attempted even-strength 1-timers per-60, while Pacioretty led all forwards. Many of Emelin's 1-timers came as the result of won faceoffs in the offensive-zone, while the majority of Pacioretty's 1-timers came as the result of east/west passes in the offensive-zone from either Markov or Desharnais.

EVEN-STRENGTH DEFLECTIONS PER-60
As with many sub-categories, deflections totals per-60 are impacted by sample size. This explains why we see players like Ryan White and Travis Moen among the leaders in deflections per-60. Other players with high even-strength deflection totals include Bryan Gionta, Gallagher, Rene Bourque, Michael Bournival, and Pacioretty.
