The TD Ottawa Jazz Festival announced a major portion of its summer lineup today. The 34th edition takes place from June 20 – July 1, 2014. 

Opening night on June 20th will feature a Bollywood and Bhangra bash with one of India’s most recognizable voices  Richa Sharma (on the Main Stage) accompanied by a host of dancers; and DJ Rekha (at the OLG Stage) whose India-inspired dance parties are some of the biggest in New York City. 

Other Main Stage artists include: Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers featuring Edie Brickell on June 22; The Tedeschi Trucks Band on June 23. Gatineau native Daniel Lanois with drummer Brian Blade on June 24; vocalist Dianne Reeves on June 25; Earth Wind and Fire on June 26, Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite on June 27; and Bobby McFerrin makes his long-awaited festival debut on June 29.

 The hugely popular OLG After Dark Series is upping the tempo in 2014 with: the Canadian Electro-pop group Austra on June 21; newly minted GRAMMY award winners Snarky Puppy on June 22; Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society on June 23; the Lemon Bucket Orkestra on June 24; Bill Frisell takes on Buster Keaton - Go West featuring Greg Leisz, Tony Scherr and Kenny Wollesen in a live sound tracking of the classic Keaton film on June 25; Lake Street Dive on June 27; Hypnotic Brass Ensemble on June 28 and Israeli guitarist Micheal Greilsammer on June 29. 

The run-away success Tartan Homes Signature Series at Dominion-Chalmers United Church returns in 2014 with: Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring arranged and composed by The Bad Plus on June 21; the Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir on June 22; Holly Cole performs on June 24; Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens on June 25; Béla Fleck and Brooklyn Rider on June 26; Buika on June 27, and Canadian music darling Jill Barber on June 28. 

The National Arts Centre Studio has always been the swingin’est site for jazz at the Festival and this year is no different with: Joey Defrancesco Trio on June 20; Hiromi’s trio project on June 23; Bill Frisell – Guitar in the space age featuring Greg Leisz, Tony Scherr and Kenny Wollesen on June 24; Stacy Kent on June 25; Rudresh Mahanthappa’s Gamak on June 26; Newport Jazz Festival: Now 60 on June 27; Jeff Ballard Trio featuring Miguel Zenon and Lionel Louke on June 28; Cécile McLorin Salvant on June 29; and the Christian McBride Trio on June 30. 

More announcements for the Main Stage, the National Arts Centre Fourth Stage Improv Invitational Series, the Artist in Residence program, the Great Canadian Series, are in store for the 2014 Festival and will be announced shortly.
