Guacamole Bar?

Guacamole Bar!

“To us, food is not just a meal – it is an experience. One to be savored, revered, and celebrated.”  How can you not love a place with that philosophy?  That place is Zocalo Mexican Bistro and Tequila Bar in Boston.  As the website reads:“Margaritas whipped up by some of Boston’s best bartenders. Guacamole made fresh as it’s ordered. Authentic Mexican dishes crafted with fresh ingredients from traditional recipes. A ‘zocalo’ is a public square, a gathering place for neighbors. And here, you’ll find friends worth toasting and flavors worth experiencing again and again. We are located in the heart of Back Bay in Boston.

Let me just tell you…the first thing I saw, other than a sampling of flying pig sculptures on the wall,  was a bar.  Not just a BAR bar, but a guacamole bar!  Yes, to my right was a gentleman at his very own station making guacamole to order.  Within minutes of sitting down, my son ordered some up for us - no tomato, extra lime…it was gone almost as quickly as it arrived!  By the way, the smoky salsa we were given when we arrived was perhaps the best salsa I ever had.  Unfortunately that ran out, and the second was a little too hot for my liking.

Speaking of BAR bars, they have fabulous cocktails.  I had the cilantro lime cocktail with Grey Goose, muddled cilantro, lime and Domain de Canton Ginger liquor and my sister ordered the Hibiscus Margarita with Corzo Blanco tequila, hibiscus syrup, fresh lime juice and a cinnamon sugar rim. Did I mentioned yet that in addition to the brunch, lunch and dinner menus, they also have a mimosa menu and a tequila menu?  Um, yeah - it's true - but trying either of those while dining with my son was just not going to happen.

Back to food…following the chips, salsa and guac, I had a delicious arugula salad with cucumbers, sliced strawberries and roasted pepitas and a side of vegan black beans that were perfectly cooked and seasoned.  My son loved his enchiladas and my sister loved her chimichurri shrimp.  What they loved most though, and was totally not vegan, were the churros and fried cheesecake!   I bet you just booked your trip to Boston…
