Google Rolls Out Android 5.1 Update, Android 5.0 Distribution is Still at 1.6%

While Android 5.0 is slowly making its way to power up more devices one at a time, barely reaching 1.6% of global Android distribution, Google has started announced a new Lollipop update.

Even though Android 5.0 looked so stylish and wonderful with its new material design, the new mobile OS caused a lot of trouble for many users who’s upgraded to the new OS. Hopefully, the new Android 5.1 update will fix all those issues, as Google claims it “improves stability and performance” over 5.0 while bringing few new features to the platform.

Android 5.1 boosts devices with multiple SIM slots, allowing users to easily switch between multiple SIM cards. Update also introduces stronger Device Protection that locks down lost or stolen devices until the user login with their Google account, even if the device is reset to factory settings.

HD Voice calling will be compatible with Android 5.1 devices, along with several other improvements to joining Wi-Fi networks and controlling paired Bluetooth devices directly from Quick Settings.

Google kept the details to a minimum with its announcement and didn’t mention which devices would get the 5.1 update first or how soon it will arrive, except for simply mentioning that it’s “rolling out” starting today. We’ll learn more details once devices receive the update.
