Godzilla Minus One – UK Release News

The verdict is in – GODZILLA MINUS ONE is a global sensation that you won’t want to miss! Bringing one of cinema’s greatest icons back to its postwar roots, the highly anticipated latest film featuring Toho’s beloved movie monster has opened to $14 million in North America, already becoming the all-time highest grossing Japanese live-action film in North America according to Comscore! Godzilla is now set to continue his box office rampage in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with GODZILLA MINUS ONE releasing exclusively in cinemas, IMAX, ScreenX and 4DX screens across the United Kingdom and Ireland from 15th December 2023.

GODZILLA MINUS ONE is “a gargantuan and resonant epic” according to Neil Smith of Total Film, who leads the rapturous critical response that has seen the film Certified Fresh with 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. In the words of Jack Bottomley from Starburst Magazine, the film is “a thunderous, profound, and exciting cinema experience that is absolutely not to be missed!“.

Celebrating almost seventy-years of being a cultural and cinema icon, this latest film in Toho’s classic series was crafted to be the most terrifying incarnation of the character yet, with a Japan gripped by the helplessness of having already lost everything before this new, monstrous threat emerges. When despair is piled on top of despair, will the people be able to survive, nevermind fight back?

Calling GODZILLA MINUS ONE “the culmination of all the films I have made to date, and one that deserves to be “experienced” rather than “watched” in the theater”, the film is written and directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki. Inspired by formative experiences with STAR WARS and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, Yamazaki has become a leading figure in Japan’s visual effects industry, and has won multiple awards for bringing Japan’s pop culture icons to the big screen, with films including Stand By Me DoraemonLupin III: The First and The Great War of Archimedes.

Synopsis:

Japan, devastated after the war, faces a new threat in the form of Godzilla. How will the country confront this impossible situation?
