Ginvera BB Cream

I was kindly sent some Ginvera products including this BB Cream, some whitening cream and exfoliating gel. I was really pleased because they look like such nice, high-end products, and I really like the aqua green tubes and the translucent green plastic boxes the products come in. This Ginvera BB Cream has even won a Silver Award ‘Best Skincare Launch 2012′ which made it even more appealing. However it all sort of went a bit wrong when I opened the tube…

Unscrewing the cap the BB Cream exploded everywhere. Seriously; all over me, completely filling the lid so it’s been messy every time I’ve used it. I think this is due to the way it’s packaged because despite the explosion I’ve found that there isn’t the full 25ml in this tube. I was also surprised at the color of the BB Cream because although it’s nude it’s actually a mid-beige color with yellow undertones I was worried because I’m quite pale with pink undertones and didn’t think it’d match, but it adjusts surprisingly well. I don’t think it could completely match all skin tone like it claims though.

It doesn’t have the same coverage as a foundation as it’s more similar to a tinted moisturiser. It rubs in nicely and evenly, although you do need a fair bit to cover your face and your neck; around the size of 2 peas. I think if you did buy this for £18 for 25ml you will run out very quickly. After about 8 uses I’ve actually finished mine completely which is quite disappointing.

As for the cream itself – it’s very smooth and smells really nice. The BB Cream left my combination skin looking fresh, radiant and dewy for the first couple of hours, but then it made my skin incredibly and uncontrollably oily. It didn’t really set on my skin, but rather it sat on top and didn’t properly dry, and I suspect that’s why using powder on top to mattify my skin a little didn’t help at all. A friend with normal/dry skin also tried it out and it worked much better on her, so perhaps avoid if you’ve got oily/combination skin.

I have noticed a slight improvement to my skin and it seems to be a little more even now and blemish free, and in this warm weather I found the SPF30 highly beneficial. However I’m not pleased with how oily and greasy this made my skin after just a couple of hours, and I’m beginning to think that BB creams are part of an unnecessary hype. This is probably one of the nicest BB creams I’ve tried, but I think I’ll be sticking to standard foundations from now on. I certainly wouldn’t pay £18 for this.
