Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase

Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase

Ty Baynton is the first of the Top 8 finalists for the Boots and Hearts SiriusXM Emerging Artist competition that we will be featuring over the next few weeks.

You, the audience, will play a part in both their performance spot at Boots and Hearts as well as the final outcome of that performance.  We want you to get to know each of the 8 finalists, one of them will go on to open for Hunter Hayes on August 3, 2014 at Boots and Hearts, plus they will get a professional single release by Big Machine Label Group and a week of training in Nashville.

We sent each of the 8 finalists 20 questions out of which they could answer as many or all they wanted to. Here’s our QA with Ty Baynton:

SC: Being selected as a finalist for Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist is a big deal.  One of the 8 of you will perform in front of Hunter Hayes this summer.  Describe the moment you found out you made it? How did they contact you? Where were you? and has it sunken in yet?

TB: It was amazing finding out I had been selected as one of the finalists for Boots & Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase. I was at home just relaxing and got an email from them notifying me. It took a good week for it to really sink in and now I just can’t wait to get there and get up on that stage.

SC: Every artist I’ve spoken to has a story about how / when they decided to purse music as a career.  Describe the moment that you knew that music was the path for you and what inspired you to take that path.

TB: I’ve always been passionate about music but the moment I knew this is what I wanted to do for a career was when I had to choose between music and my day job because I didn’t have time or energy to do both. Until then I hadn’t really focus all my efforts into it or even dreamed I could do this for a living. Looking back I think I made the right decision.

SC: In music today there are a lot of artists working on projects with other artists, for example Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line or Tim Hicks and Black Jack Billy.  If you could write with or perform with any artist on the scene today (from any genre) who would it be?

TB: If I could perform with any artist past or present it would have to be Randy Travis or Paul Brandt. Both of them have been and continue to be huge influences on me and to have an opportunity to work with them would be a chance of a lifetime for me.

side note: Paul Brandt will be at Boots and Hearts this summer too…

SC: As an aspiring Country Music star performing in front of large crowds is pretty much par for the course, what’s the largest crowd you’ve ever performed in front of?, do you still get butterflies? If so what do you do to calm your nerves ahead of the show?

TB: The largest crowd I have ever performed in would probably be 8-10,000 people. I don’t so much get butterflies or nervous before I take the stage I just can’t wait to get out there!

SC: In any career there comes a moment, sometimes moments, where you know you’re doing something right.  As an entertainer you make a decision to follow a path that can take can be rocky and difficult to travel before it brings you to a favourable destination, can you describe a moment in your career, so far, that made you feel that you took the right path?

TB: I think the moments I’ve had in my career that tell me I’m doing something right happen at every single show I play. When fans come up and say how great the show was or how much they love one of my songs is what keeps me pushing forward and knowing I’m doing things right. It’s all the little things like that for me.

SC: What’s your all-time favorite movie?

TB: I typically only ever watch a movie once so to pick an all time favorite is tough, but anything about country music usually gets played more then once like Walk The Line or Country Strong. I enjoy listening to and watching the music.

SC: Your ideal brain food?

TB: My ideal brainfood is a cheeseburger and fries.

SC: If you could see any artist in concert, who would you see (living or dead)?

TB: If I could see any artist live it would be Randy Travis.

SC: iPhone, Android or Blackberry?

TB: I currently have an IPhone.

SC: What are your family member’s musical interests and abilities?

TB – No one in my immediate family has any musical abilities but they all love listening to it haha.

SC: Star Trek or Star Wars?

TB: Star Wars hand down !

SC: Stress management: hit man, spa vacation or Prozac?

TB: Can I say hunting/fishing trip? Haha

SC: What is the best advice you’ve been given?

TB: It’s actually a quote from a Nelson Mandela speech. “By letting your own light shine you unconsciously give others the power to do the same”.

SC: The music business is one of the most charitable businesses in the world, is there a specific charity that’s close to your heart that you support or would like to see more support for?
TB: I’ve done several concerts for Relay For Life to raise money and awareness for cancer research as well as teaming up with F. A. C. E. (Firefighters Against Cancers Existence) as my father is a fire fighter so it’s something very close to my heart.
SC: In the final few days of voting tell us why country music fans should vote for Ty Baynton?

TB: I believe fans should vote for who their favorite artist is period. There a so many talented artists in this showcase who have different sounds, styles and influences. I think if fans hear my music and like it and like who I am as a person then I would love their support in this contest. At the end of the day though I’m thrilled with opportunity to perform at Boots & Hearts and look forward to meeting news friends and fans.
