This chemical called bile facilitates the absorption of the fat. The bile basically enters the small intestine via the common bile duct in the second part of the duodenum ( small intestine).

Gall stones are of three types, cholesterol, mixed and pigmented. Maximum numbers of patients have mixed stones. Pigmented variety can be of two types, black and brown.

Usually Gall stones are accidently diagnosed during ultrasonogram examination of the abdomen during a routine examination. (This is why a routine checkup is a must).

Usually the patients are asymptomatic. Later when the stones start to complicate the situation by occluding the gall bladder then problems such as pain in the right upper abdomen takes place which is also known as colicky pain, which radiates to the right upper shoulder or to the back, this pain usually occurs after eating a heavy fatty meal in the night. Feelings of nausea and vomiting might even occur.

Waiting for the symptoms to appear is not the best way to handle this situation. Get a routine Ultrasonogram test done .Gall stones are removed by a procedure called laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Cholecystectomy is the commonest surgery that is performed by surgeons around the world. When performed by skilled surgeons the operation is rather simple and complications are rare.

With full recovery within two weeks of surgery , you can finally enjoy your meal!
