Friday’s Favorite: Favorite Kid Halloween Movies

Posted on the 20 October 2012 by Appraisingpages @appraisjngpages

Justine and I have really cute kids. Like, really cute kids. And our Month of the Macabre spectacular didn’t feel complete with highlighting some our favorite Halloween kid things. One of our most favorite is kid Halloween movies. Our kids are at such a fun stage because EVERYTHING is real to them. So we play along with our favorite movies and get to experience being a kid again in the funnest way. The common thing with all these movies is that we enjoy them just as much as our kids. Here are our favorites:

Friday’s Favorite: Favorite Kid Halloween Movies
Monster House:

This movie is so creative. It’s an animated movie, but the cinematography style still looks like it was shot on film with a camera. It’s so hard to explain unless you’ve seen it! This is a really fun movie that is a must-watch once the leaves start to turn. Okay, so we live in Phoenix and there aren’t much color changes. But watching this makes us feel like fall.

Hocus Pocus:

I’m including this one because I know Justine loves it and I know it’s a classic. Here’s the truth. I’ve only kind of seen this movie once. In first grade. At a sleepover. I grew up in a pretty strict family that was not cool with most Halloween or horror things so this movie was always a no-go, but I really want to buy this one and see what all the buzz is about. Do you like Hocus Pocus?

Paranorman:

This one just came out this year and was so funny! I saw it with my 3 year old (my 1 year old still doesn’t sit through a full movie) and we also went with his cousin and we had so much fun. This movie had us cracking up at jokes my 3 year old doesn’t understand yet, and the storyline was really cute! I can’t wait to buy this when it comes out on blu-ray and watch it next year and the year after that!

Halloweentown:

This one is for all of the 90′s kids out there. I bought this as a combo movie set with the sequel, Halloweentown II, and it’s one of my favorites to watch at home. It’s just so nostalgic for me! I’m so glad my son loves it already, because this one never annoys me. This might make me super lame, but if it does, I don’t care!

I’ve saved this one for last because it’s the most important one of all!! The Nightmare Before Christmas is a huge deal in our family. We have a party themed after it every year, and it’s one of my favorite traditions. The best part of this movie? It’s hybrid of my two favorite things: Halloween and Christmas! Justine’s daughter and my boys have the songs memorized and do the cutest little dances to the music, this another one we could watch every day and I’d never get tired of it. The art and effort behind the stop-motion production blows my mind and every time I watch it I discover something new to love. By far, this is my favorite Halloween movie!

What are your favorite Halloween movies? Are any of them traditions in your house?
