Most expert-suggested healthy diets recommend a good intake of fish. Fish is known to have heart-healthy Omega 3 fatty acids that are good for brain development. If you have fish at home, it’s a good idea to introduce your baby to fish with a fish puree for babies recipe so that she gets used to the taste.

Fish can be introduced after 6 months, if there is history of family allergy. Otherwise, it’s best to consult your pediatrician first. For more information about feeding fish to your baby, check out our post on introducing chicken and fish.

Which fish to introduce to baby?

For babies, always choose fish with a low mercury content, like these:

  • Salmon (Rawas/Kaala/Kora/Bameen/Surmai)
  • Tuna (Soora/Choora/Gedare)
  • Catfish (Kelluthi/Jelalu/Walaga/Valia Etta/Kaari/Thede/Teesrya)
  • Codfish (Panna/Kalava/Mullan/)

Avoid Canned Fish and always opt for fresh fish. When selecting fish to cook for your baby, choose one with shiny scales, and reddish inner parts.  Fish with a single central bone is easier to prepare for babies. Peel the skin, chop into small pieces and remove any small bones if necessary.
