On September 3rd, the Venice International Film Festival premiered ‘Disconnect’. The ensemble cast includes Alex Skarsgård, who plays Viking vampire Eric Northman on HBO’s True Blood. ‘Disconnect’ tells the story of several people searching for human connections in the modern world of electronic social media. The festival featured the film in its ‘out of competition’ category.

Mr. Skarsgård stars with Paula Patton as a grieving husband and wife who become victims of identity theft. This multi-thread story is about the impact of social media on several interrelated characters. Eventually, all the various strands converge.

Through a seamless integration of technology into the narrative, ‘Disconnect’ makes the point that our social consciousness has not kept up with the growth of that technology. The characters are so overloaded by social media, they have become disconnected, and are searching for a human connection with the people right in front of them.

‘Disconnect’ is scheduled for release in the U.S. in April 2013.
