This is my third post in a row of Maia’s International Comedy Theatre Festival, but bear with me — it’s the last! Last year we only made it to one show, but this year we managed to make it to four of the nine evening shows, plus the outdoor entertainers who performed for 20 minutes before each main event.
The closing night’s main act was a human rubber band named Jean Philippe Kikolas, whose bumbling, myopic French postman character was à la Charlie Chaplin and The Three Stooges. The performance started off a little slow but picked up the pace about a third of the way through. My favourite scenes included him getting inside the gigantic balloon, which you can see in the YouTube video below.
Opening Act: Mimo Augusto
Mimo Augusto’s schtick kept everyone giggling without making a sound himself; the way he interacted with the kids he recruited for the plate-spinning routine was so funny I had trouble keeping the camera still for these hand-held, flash-less shots.
