Exquisite Sweetness

By Veronica Lopez

Once every week I make an experiment. A food experiment to be more accurate. This experimental side of me was born with the travels and adventures. I believe that food is culture and part of the identity of a region or nation. This is the time of the alfajor, which is arabic means الفاخر‎ exquisite. Yes, the alfajor is nor original from Argentina – as many like to think – but it is from arabic origin. The alfajores were introduced to the Iberian Peninsula by the Moors during the period of al-Andalus. And when the Spanish discovered America and build the colonies, they brought the alfajores with them. The countries in the south for South America adopted this delicacy as their own, specially Argentina. The rest is history!
