Euro Kidding ...

Posted on the 04 March 2014 by Tlb Music Blog @TLB_Blog
Well, it seems that it's that time again, and whilst we at TLB were well and truly prepared for embarrassment at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen ... it seems that whomever has picked the girl to take to the stage for us this year, has actually done a half decent job. On the official Eurovision page, our girl Molly Smitten-Downes, is receiving lots of attention from many different countries, and we'll most definitely explain why.
Euro Kidding ...Whether you like the contest itself or not, we all manage to find some time to talk about it, and so the patriotism behind us is rather important. Molly, whom is obviously unknown, penned her own track to be showcased and, whilst the subject at hand is relatively cringey (as always with this event though), the way in which it has all been put together finishes rather nicely and, even though the only video we currently have available is live, we think there are a lot of things to take from this that suggest that we have a good chance this time.
The music, for starters, is a lot less Euro-Dance than usual. Let's face it, we're absolutely crap at making Euro-Dance music - so why is it that we try year on year? This track sees a lot more percussion that we're used to and, the thing is, it could actually chart here!! There's similarities that float around it that cross plenty of names like Gotye, Ella Eyre, Sia, and even Madonna ... so what's not to like?
Secondly, the vocals. Molly has really got some good pipes on her. Granted she isn't perfect, but considering none of us had heard of her voice, it's a damn mystery how ... she really can sing and has a sweetness about her that really is charming. We reckon that'll notch up a couple of votes too!
Finally, and possibly most importantly, the subject at hand is about union. Now, this is what may make it a bit too sweet for the likes of us sour Brits, but, Europeans love a bit of silliness and soppiness and Children Of The Universe may well be what gets us to the top!
It's been a long old time since we've had a song in this competition to be somewhat proud of, but here we are, and Molly Smitten-Downes may just be the next big face in the music industry - funny eh?!
Paul.
