Eric Church, Desperate Album Review

Eric Church has done it again. With the release of Desperate Man, the country star has put together a collection of songs that ring true, hit hard, and will have fans thinking about the lyrical content as much as singing along.

The North Carolina native's sixth studio album is an 11 track beauty. It's real, it's honest, it's unafraid to be vulnerable, and is brave enough to go to places some artists don't. It's everything fans expect and love from Church.

From beginning to end, there's no doubt who this album comes from. And it's not just the signature voice that gives it away. Desperate Man is an album that bleeds Eric Church. It is full of feeling and emotion. It gets political on The Snake. It gets nostalgic and sweet on Hippie Radio. It gives a nod to faith on Monsters.

And while Church's fans love the image of him as an outsider, a rebel, an eff you to the establishment and everything they think is wrong with modern country music, this album is going to do well at radio right alongside FGL and Luke Bryan.

The lead single and title track, Desperate Man, is a great listen and vintage Church. It's catchy as hell, the musicianship in the studio is on point, it's got an edge where it needs it, and it's already loved.

The single peaked at #13 on the US Country Airplay chart and is currently sitting at #5 on Canadian country radio. And, with a recent history of radio hits ( Record Year #1, Kill A Word #6, Round Here Buzz #2) we have little doubt that this album is going to result in similar success in the coming months.

There's also Chruch's Platinum pattern to consider, with his last four records ( Carolina, Chief, The Outsiders, Mr. Misunderstood) all reaching or surpassing the milestone.

These 11 songs also fit perfectly into Eric Church's library and live show set options. And in his three hour shows he'll have the opportunity to slide selections from Desperate Man into the more rocking parts of the night, or in the stripped-down moments. That's something we're looking forward to seeing on the 2019 Double Down Tour.

But for now, we'll be sitting here listening to Eric Church tell tales and share his soul for 36 minutes at a time as we play Desperate Man on repeat.

We recommend that you give it a spin too!
