Rare Darling is one of those boy meets girl stories that, as usual, progresses to the couple recording some really sweet pop tracks together in the dead of winter from a Scandinavian cabin. For real though. I’ve been listening to “Under Your Skin” for a week straight now because it’s one of those songs that has a light touch but heavy melody and leaves you with a mellow aftertaste that seals in repeat plays. Citing M83, The Knife and Passion Pit as influences, Rare Darling definitely has a preoccupation with synthy electronics but opts for delicate over weighty on all fronts. The back-and-forth vocals between the pair means more than the usual male/female pop collaboration because they’re singing to each other — and it doesn’t hurt that their voices are entrancing.
