DC Comics Releases First Look at HARLEY QUINN #1

Posted on the 21 November 2013 by Geekasms @geekasms

Yesterday, Harley Quinn #0 was released to the wild and it was quite a fun ride.  This ongoing series will be co-written by fan favories Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner.  This first issue dealt with Harley looking for an artist to draw her comic with running commentary by Palmiotti and Conner.  We had pages drawn by such talents as Jim Lee, Walter Simonson, Sam Keith, Darwyn Cook, Bruce Timm, Adam Hughes and many others.  With December’s issue #1, we settle in for the ride with the regular series artist, Chad Hardin, who most recently worked on Justice League of America #7.3: Shadow Thief.

Palmiotti states that “Harley is a complex character and we are going to build on her background, motivations and her home and supporting cast.  Sort of what we did with Power Girl but with a mix of a bit more homicidal maniac added in.  She is the hero in her own story.  What happens, who gets killed, what house gets burned down and so on, well, that’s just part of her story.  She looks at the world differently and we will be building on that and looking even closer on her past and what makes her tick.  There are so many layers to this fantastic character that we cannot wait to explore.”

Conner elaborated that “she will be trying to live a normal-ish life with new people in a new environment.  What kind of upheaval will she throw her new surroundings into?  We’re going to take into account that Harley’s ‘normal’ isn’t the rest of everybody’s ‘normal’.  Her supporting cast will be less superhero-like (for now) and more like the rest of us.  Kind of.  We will be working all that into the storylines, and part of the entertainment will be in seeing how those characters deal with her being around.”

I’m a huge fan of what Palmiotti and Conner did on Power Girl and was immediatly excited to see that they were taking on Harley Quinn.  I love the character, even though I’m still not a fan of her new look, so I can’t wait to see what they come up with.  Thanks to DC Entertainment, we don’t have to wait too long.  They have provided an advanced peek inside of issue #1 for your enjoyment:
