Guys, I’m worried about Oliver Perry, the mastermind behind D.D. Dumbo’s newest single, “Tropical Oceans”. First of all, the song could not have a more misleading title. The tune sounds like it was cooked up in some abandoned industrial warehouse, about as removed from the beach as you can get. The strained way that Perry delivers the titular line sounds like a yearning for someone to release him into the “warm, magical tropical oceans.” It’s as though Perry has been locked away in this warehouse for years, and the only thing he could find to play was an old busted guitar, while the chugging of machinery in the background comes to life. He repeats the same basic guitar line throughout the song, but builds upon each one, seemingly growing more comfortable with the new sound as the song goes on. ”Tropical Oceans” is such a good song that I almost hope that Perry’s imprisonment never ends. At least it’s already yielded a new EP, due out on November 12th from The Blue Rider.
