Story: Corsage starts as we meet Empress Elisabeth (Krieps) of Austria. She was seen as an icon of beauty for the country until she hits 40 and is officially deemed old. For the next year, Elisabeth looks to discover a way to maintain her beauty in the eyes closest to her.

This sees Elisabeth meeting different members of her family, trying to rebuild relationships damaged over the years.

Verdict on Corsage

Corsage is a historical drama that loosely tells the story of Empress Elisabeth of Austria once she hit 40. Following her for a year as she deals with the sudden change in public image surrounding her. This sees her meeting important people in her life that has different opinions on the image changing.

The movie does a good job to show how public perception changed overnight for Empress Elisabeth. Despite nothing about who she was or the things, she does, changing. This is told in a calmer tone than ‘The Favourite’, which trends the same ideas of a royal figure alone in the world. The performances throughout the film are great, with Vicky Kreips shining above the rest of the cast.

Final Thoughts Corsage is an entertaining vision of a royal figure.
