Connections

Posted on the 27 December 2010 by Maria Snyder @MariaConsulting

Connections are very important. When you meet someone, new or otherwise do they think about you later in the day? I’d like to beleive and hope that I’m like that, people cant stop thinking about me. I have the conversation skills of a bartender because my Dad was a good one and could talk to anyone about anything. It’s something you just have, the knack to socialize. I’ve had mine from about the time I started to talk and walk.
You can learn to be a bartender and mix drinks, not everyone can jump into a social situation and work a room. I’ve had my moments where I feel awkward, who doesn’t and I’ve hesitated. Somehow I can make it through the awkward moment and work a social situation. A compliment or an easy question goes a long way to break the ice.
Using social media in today’s ever changing environment can be challenging. Colors change, screens change, things get switched around, but the person behind the social activity should remain true to self, not fake. How else will people remember you? Shouldn’t your personality be the constant? Ongoing friendships must be maintained and worked on. I recently reconnected with many childhood friends using social networks, have you?
Facebook hosts many groups and fan pages galore advising how to make connections. Twitter is also another vehicle to connect, there you need to engage, @reply and send messages. Linked in is great for the professional connections out there. List accurate resume information, join a group or three and begin connecting. All of these have been successfully implemented for Maria Snyder Consulting. Let me know if I can help you.
This past holiday season was tough for me. It was the first one with Dad in Heaven. Dad was here though, we talked about him and remembered him with smiles. He was like me, when you met him, you thought about him later that day. Gosh it’s amazing how smart he was, how much he knew, priceless!
Friends tell me I know a lot of people, I’m very lucky that way. I make an impression with people, I have the knack – thanks Dad.
