It’s always great when an album comes my way that truly celebrates what Independent Hip-Hop is all about, and the new compilation LP Unearthed from Coalmine Records does just that. It is available as both a mixed version (done up by DJ Revolution, which you can stream below) and an “Untagged Deluxe Edition” with 3 bonus tracks (the 2CD set and Deluxe Edition will be available May 27th). As the label puts it:

Unearthed epitomizes our commitment to delivering quality Hip-Hop, equipped with a tracklist that serves as a who’s who of today’s independent Hip-Hop scene, packed with features from both veteran and burgeoning emcees such as Pharoahe Monch, Kool G Rap, Large Professor, The Artifacts, Blu, Sean Price, Billy Danze (of M.O.P.), Big Noyd, Skillz, Guilty Simpson, Rah Digga, Maffew Ragazino, El Da Sensei and Fashawn, among others. Producers tapped include the Australian Aria Award Winning M-Phazes, Marco Polo, Ayatollah, Diamond D, Nottz, Khrysis, and more.”

I couldn’t agree with them more, this is real hip-hop from a label that has devoted itself to giving the world the goods. This mix is definitely going into heavy rotation. Highly Recommended.
