Claud, the first signing to Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory (a new label imprint with Dead Oceans), has shared the video for ‘Guard Down’ ahead of the release of new album ‘Super Monster’ on 12 February. Co-written with Cameron Hale and Mary Weitz, the emo-tinged pop song finds the singer-songwriter heading to New York City – where they’ll possibly bump into a former love interest who has now moved on: ‘You’re seeing someone. I’m not though and that feels really awful’.

With floaty bedroom pop atmospherics, emo stylings and an eminently danceable beat, the song sits somewhere between a DIY Maggie Rogers, Soccer Mommy and Mac DeMarco as Claud keeps suggesting ‘Don’t let your guard down’ as ‘There’s nothing like a New York summer’. They then launch into a stream-of-conciousness rap that demands ‘Meet me in the bathroom’ – a reference to The Strokes song?
