This is a double product nail post. On the left is the Ciate Shooting Stars nail caviar, and on the right is Nicole by OPI The Next CEO nail polish. I really like gold nail polishes and these both complement each other incredibly well. They’re shimmery and eye catching, although neither are very long lasting. Find out why I wouldn’t recommend either.

The Nicole by OPI nail polish is one I’ve been wanting to try for a little while. After receiving an OPI nail polish in my Birchbox I knew that I wanted to try it in a shade that is more ‘me’, so I chose The Next CEO, a super gold nail polish. I also wanted to try one of the larger bottles of nail polish because of the way the pot has been designed; it’s one of the few brands to have considered an ergonomic approach to their bottle. The shape of the bottle means that application is much easier because there’s a flat surface to rest your nail on when you’re holding the bottle.

The polish itself is a reasonable consistency, although like most nail polishes you will need 2 coats. I did find that I had to wait quite some time between coats, but once dry the resulting nail polish was bold and glitzy with a slight matte foil effect. It didn’t last long though and I was amazed to find that within hours it was beginning to chip slightly. This nail polish is £7.99 so I found the chipping extremely surprising. Unfortunately even a good top and base coat didn’t seem to be able to hold it in place for much longer than a day or 2. I found the same for the red OPI nail polish I received in my Birchbox.

Amazingly the Ciate Shooting Stars nail caviar was even worse in terms of how long it lasted. It stayed put for minutes before the small balls began to literally roll off my finger nails. I applied some top coat over the caviar but it went stodgy and starting coming off in sludgy messes. I tried again without the top coat and the nail caviar completely came off over the course of about 4 or 5 hours. It did look nice when it was on though, although it’s amazing how easy it is to scrape your nail when it’s slightly thicker than what you’re expecting it to be.

I probably wouldn’t bother with either the Ciate nail caviar or the OPI nail polish unless it was a special occasion. Together they do look nice – possibly nicer than any of the other nail polishes or nail caviars I’ve tried – but they just don’t last very long. Plus the beads are quite fiddly and messy to apply so I probably wouldn’t want to put them on very often… I think slightly smaller beads would have helped the nail caviar stay on for longer, and a dedicated stickier nail polish.
