Can We Stop The “I Have A Dream” Talk Now?

Posted on the 28 August 2013 by Eastofmidnight

I know I’m going against the grain, but can we please…PLEASE…stop talking about the “dream”?

Yes…I’m feeling cynical. Because whenever the “I Have a Dream” speech is talked about, the part that gets talked about is the part that can be sanitized; the kum-by-ya/let’s hold hands/can’t we all just get along part.  The “insufficient funds” part of the speech doesn’t get talked about much.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a complicated man. And the “I Have a Dream” speech is about so much more than that damn dream. So, for the love of G-d, can we stop talking about the “dream” and start talking about the “insufficient funds”?
