If you’ve done the coastal route of the Camino Português from Porto to Santiago de Compostela over the past year, this sculpture may look familiar to you. It was created by sculptor Carlos Rodrigues in 2014, after successfully crowdfunding the project in the first quarter. It’s a tribute to the pilgrims of the Camino who pass by, a 3-metre tall friendly greeting in the Largo de Vilarinha on their way north to Santiago. Here’s a video he made in support of the project.

Vilarinho is a crossing point for thousands of pilgrims every year, making this an ancient path.
My project intends to honor Vilarinho, Santiago, and Pilgrims from all over the world, with a large (3m) and somewhat primitive and rough aspect sculpture, as you can see in the model of the project.
I look forward for your help … altogether, let’s keep this “live” track with the milestones that already exist and create others to attract more pilgrims …
So, to see our Santiago, move your heavy legs and run the world by the hand of who here has passed.
We see pilgrims often because the path crosses right in front of our home, and we like to host pilgrims (either through BeWelcome or Couchsurfing) for the cultural exchange and to give them a break from the aluguer, dorm-style accommodation. Paulo did the Camino Português from Porto in the spring of 2012 with a friend, and perhaps in our future we will take another route (or maybe even the same one) together.
