Bugg Is Back ...

Jake Bugg has made a sensational return to the music world just days after the announcement that his self-titled debut album is up for the Mercury Prize this year. The track, called What Doesn't Kill You, was premiered on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show last night and is most definitely a different showcase to that of what we know of Jake.
Bugg Is Back ...The interview introduction goes on for around 45 seconds ... which doesn't leave much time for a song, though, this is nothing new from Jake. Fortunately, we actually find this snippet of the young starlet fascinating and most definitely relevant to the song. When the track finally does begin, you'll notice the dramatic changes immediately.
Jake doesn't brandish his trusty acoustic guitar, his vocal is much faster and the likenesses to Bob Dylan fade very quickly ... however, this leaves space for comparisons to the likes of Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig and, of course, Arctic Monkeys.
It's very fast-paced and much edgier than what he has previously offered. It's still a brilliant song though and we reckon that, unlike many others, he will perform this transition brilliantly. However, there seems to be a lot less passion in this single and we do wonder how the audiences that loved the beauty and soul behind his music previously will react to something so rebellious and untamed.
Jake did promise us something different and, with the simple change from acoustic to electric, he has managed something somewhat outrageous, courageous and, all in all, bloody fantastic. We're thoroughly excited, in which case, for his new album, Shangri La, which is due on November 18th ... Albeit what seems very soon after his debut.
Paul.
