Box Office Predictions: ‘Inferno’ For Top Spot

Posted on the 26 October 2016 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Tom Hanks’s Inferno, the third book in the Da Vinci Code series by Dan Brown, is looking to easily get the top spot as it is the only new wide release this weekend, and it has already been doing quite well overseas. The Da Vinci Code opened to 77M on its way to 217M domestic, while Angels and Demons opened to 46M, and a 133M total. There’s likely going to be even more depreciation here, as Inferno doesn’t have the benefit of being a summer release, so the likelihood of a 30M+ opening is slim. Critics also haven’t been kind, and there are a lot of releases aiming for the same target demo. 25M might be in store for Inferno.

Boo! A Madea Halloween is actually going to hold up OK. With an A cinemascore, the fright-comedy is likely to follow in the footsteps of Madea Christmas instead of other Tyler Perry movies which see harsh week-to-week drops. Jack Reacher 2 might hold OK, but a B+ cinemascore suggests word of mouth isn’t particularly strong.
