Because Rayne is in BC and we're home in Ontario and there's not a lot of travelling going on right now, we caught up via email for a Q&A session and got her to record her first round of 5 Quick Questions with us from the comfort of home. We learned about the artists she admires, her plans for more new music, AND a talent that you definitely did not know about coming into this post.

Now, check out the Q&A and then the round of 5 Quick Questions we have with Rayne to learn about her, Bored, what comes next and MORE!

Q&A with Rayne!

Q) Bored is your second single of 2020, and the follow-up to The Low (ft. Milli Beatz), how does it feel to have it out to the world for people to hear?

Rayne) It feels incredible! I'm always so excited to release my songs and to share them with others. This song especially, as it's one of my favourites that I've done.

Q) Can you tell us a little more about the song? If you had a sentence or two, what would you say about it?

Rayne) It's about feeling bored in an on and off relationship that keeps going around in the same cycle. I really wanted the feel of the song to reflect boredom, yet be an upbeat vibe that makes you want to dance.

Q) As a songwriter, do you have any habits or rituals when it comes time to write? Do you have to have a notebook or computer or coffee or anything like that? Take us into your process a little bit!

Rayne) I counted the other day and I have 20 notebooks in my bedroom right now. Funnily enough, I tend to type out songs on my phone or computer instead of actually writing them out. My process is to usually come up with title ideas or concepts for a song before I start writing. I then try and find a melody to match whatever I have written down.

Q) When it comes to your music, as a singer and a songwriter, who do you count as influences of your style and career?

Rayne) Growing up I was introduced to a wide variety of musical genres and artists, anything from top 40, jazz, electronic, rap, and metal. Because of this, my influences can be a bit hard to pin down. I would definitely say Adele has played a huge role in the shaping of my vocals. I became absolutely obsessed with her from the ages of nine to eleven and learned to sing a bunch of her songs. My songwriting on the other hand has been more influenced by later music phases I went though and included a lot of alternative artists such as Twenty One Pilots, Florence + the Machine, and Billie Eilish.

Q) We know that 2020 has been a mess, so it's great to see you releasing your second single of the year. Can you tell us about any more plans for more new music maybe coming down the line?

Rayne) I have a six song EP waiting to be unleashed upon the world, but we'll probably release one more single before doing so. Waiting is always the hardest part of being a musician for me, especially because I'm always in the studio recording and writing. If I could, I would be spamming my Instagram and Spotify followers with a new song every week!

Q) Last one for a little something extra, can you tell us all something that we wouldn't find on your social channels or in a Google search. (example: a hidden talent)

Rayne) I have a black belt in Taekwondo and used to take Krav Maga classes. It comes surprisingly in handy at concerts when you're trying not to get trampled in a mosh pit.
