Each year, when the weather (finally) begins to warm up, Best Coast’s summery Crazy For You is consistently one of my go-to albums. That’s why it’s fitting that the power-poppy, paranoid “Fear Of My Own” was recently released by the band on this year’s 4/20 (also quite fitting). “You taught me that my heart would grow old,” Bethany Cosentino sings bitterly on the track, like she’s fresh off having her heart broken and the wounds are nowhere near healed. It’s a far cry from the sweet, lovesick “oohs” and “ahhs” of Crazy For You, but it’s definitely a welcome change. “Fear Of My Own Identity” is the new Best Coast: bigger, badder, and buzzier than before.
