Be mine this Valentine’s by dailyinspirationboard featuring Sur La Table
Valentine’s Day has a bad reputation, of course. It’s a marketer’s ploy; a day that people in relationships generally find annoying; and a day that single people find even more so.
I guess that it’s what you want to make of it. If you’re in a relationship, and you want to do something special, then do it – but it’s not to say that you don’t do special things the rest of the year round.
The day was first associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In 18th-century England. It evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as “valentines”). Valentine’s Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. (Source: Wikipedia).
I recall during high school, it was the day when people would buy roses for fellow students – and they would get called out during assembly to collect them. There would always be two or three guys or girls that would collect maybe 15 roses each. Crazy? Yep.
I think it’s one of those days that you can tweak to your will. If you are in a relationship, do something special – it need not be over the top, but just making breakfast and writing them a note to say how you feel will make them feel incredible.
If you’re not in a relationship, do something special for your friends. They’ll appreciate it, you’ll feel amazing, and there is destined to be good feelings all round.
Meanwhile, here’s some gift ideas if you’re thinking of getting into the spirit! Enjoy.
