Back to School: Study Methods

By Shimmerofpink @shimmerofpink
Hellooo shimmers,
This is part one of my back to school collection and will be looking at study methods. Everyone has there preferred ways to study and I will cover as many as I can to help you choose what best suits you. This is what I will cover and you can see what best suits you;-
1. Visualiser (if it's a word!!)
2. Reader
3. Writer
You may not prefer one in particular many people use a bit of all but as I said it has to be something that helps you otherwise it won't work!
1. Visualiser- this is for people who like colour, diagrams, shapes... Something interesting to look at rather than black and white notes.
• This can be as simple as writing your notes in colours and using highlighters to help you remember important parts.
• Next idea PowerPoints. During the year my teacher used PowerPoints with notes and pictures and things so I took in a memory stick and she put the PowerPoints onto it for me and I then used them to help me study which I thought really worked for me but not every subject or teacher uses PowerPoints and it would probably be to much effort and time to create your own ones.
•Last visual idea and my personal favorite method to study; the use of mindmaps/ spider diagrams it has quite a few names. But I love them it means you can get all the main idea and points of the course on one price of paper... Make it colourful so it easy to look at and remember. I find them great for studying/ revising.
2. Reader- a more traditional method of studying. This is my least preferred method of studying but I know lots of people use it.
• Fist idea for this section is to read over and over in your head parts of the course until its stuck in your mind. Because I am more a visual person this method doesn't work for me but it may well work for you.
•Another idea are the revision guides that you can purchase and they have the study notes already written for you and you can read through it and look at the diagrams and things.
• Last pointer for reader is ...Reading parts of your notes and then saying it aloud, so you are memorising it word for word.
3. Writer- for those who like a bit of visual and a bit of reading these tips might best suit you.
• Firstly, remember the look, say, write, check? Where you read something, say it aloud, wrote it down from memory then checked if you got it right. I would recommend this as a studying method as it is a bit more than just reading and saying it aloud... You also write it down. And if you are more visual then you can use colours and things to help.
• A white/ blackboard is a great accessory to have when studying you can purchase really cheap ones from amazon and it allows you to write important stuff down and a great way to make your studying a bit more interesting. I love using a white board personally.
I really do hope that these study methods help you find the one that best suits you and some other ideas that might help you with your revision.
Part 2 will be "Back to School: Organisation"
