Back into Reading...

By Chelseajmartin

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to finish reading a book. The last one I managed to read was Shadow Tag by Louise Erdrich. On Sunday, I polished off Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

It was a fast read and focused on the Nu Shu or secret writing some Chinese women of the time learned as a way to communicate with one another. The story followed the friendship of two Chinese women from childhood to death and provided a simple view of some Chinese cultural customs of the time.

At less than 300 pages it makes a good book to pick up around the holidays when things get busy and it is difficult to find alot of time to read or follow a complex plot or a novel with a ton of character development.

Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

I just started reading The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. It was lent to me by my significant other’s dad quite some time ago and I’d really like to have it read by Christmas so I can return it. I also have The Lonely Polygamist by Brady Udall on my Nook, which is hilarious, but I haven’t managed to finish just yet.

I’m hoping to get back in the groove of reading books (and completing them!) regularly. It can be so relaxing and makes me feel like I’m growing and engaging my brain!

Have any of you read any good books lately?
