Autumn Inherited the Bar (100 Word Challenge Week #17)

By Hurtlingtowards60 @ronitee

I love a challenge,  this includes  keeping my garden under control, learning how to use my camera to take great photographs  and now creative writing.

About 15 years ago I took Adult GCSE English and really enjoyed the opportunity to write.    So when  Julia at Julia’s Place introduced me to the 100 Word Challenge for Grown Up, I grasped the idea with both hands.

Write 100 words having been given a prompt doesn’t sound too difficult does it?   Julia has a mean streak which makes the old gray matter work hard.   My first week the challenge was reduced to 50 words incorporating “…Autumn leaves…”.   Last week our prompt was a photo of a sculpture of pair of hands holding a burger with the instructions to write 100 words from the perspective of a vegetarian.

Autumn Inherited the Bar (100 Word Challenge Week #17)

This is what Julia set us for this week:-

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot…

Now it has a rhythm to it – yes? Your challenge this week is to write something with the same rhythm using only 21 words that include ‘ …in winter we shiver…‘ Easy!

Not easy as a newbie to the 100WCGU but this week has had me digging deep to recall the small knowledge I had when it comes to iambic pentameters.   Not only was it limited to 21 words, I made it more difficult for myself because I wanted to continue a theme.

I have spent several days with rhymes going around my head and now here is what I have come up with….

Disaster, disaster, we are so disgusted

Autumn’s inherited the bar

It opens in Winter, we shiver appalled

We inherit the car

Phew, done it!  Not brilliant but I have met the challenge.  Please click on the button above or the link  HERE  and read the excellent contributions to this weeks 100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups.
