Artist On The Rise: Iggy Azalea

rs_634x813-140421161240-634.igg7.cm.421143This week’s artist on the rise is Amethyst Amelia Kelly, born 7 June 1990, better known by her stage name Iggy Azalea, is an Australian rapper from Mullumbimby, New South Wales.

She moved to the states at the age of 16 to pursue a career in Hip-Hop music, first residing in Miami, Florida, and then other parts of the southern United States, including Houston, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia. She first gained recognition after the respective music videos for her controversial songs “Pu$$y” and “Two Times” went viral on YouTube. In September 2011, she released her debut “Mixtape” and subsequently aligned herself with Atlanta-based rapper T.I. in 2012. In that same year T.I. announced Azalea’s signing to his record label imprint Grand Hustle. In July 2012, she released an EP executive-produced by T.I., titled “Glory”.

After the signing Grand Hussle she became the first female and the first non-American rapper to be featured on XXL’s annual Top 10 Freshmen cover issue.  With a few issues along the years she didn’t stop her music. The 24-year-old rapper songwriter finally released her album “The New Classic” on April 21, 2014, under Virgin EMI and Def Jam Recordings.  The album featured by four singles, “Work“, “Bounce” and “Fancy“. “Fancy” went on to reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. with Azalea becoming only the fourth solo female rapper ever to top the Hot 100, The 24-year-old has taken the music world by storm.

She has had projects associated with rapper T.I., singer songwriter Charlie XCX, Ariana Grande, Lil Kim, Jessie J and Rita Ora many more. Throughout the years she has had nothing but success, her music has reached number one many times. She has a talent that many people wish for. We at Catch My Ear look forward to listening to this artist’s newest creation.  There’s no doubt in my mind that she won’t wow her fans she always does. This girl has worked extremely hard to get to where she is, and I know she will soon hold the world of music at the palm of her hands.
