Apple Cider Vinegar - Another Way to Keep the Doctor Away!

By Yonni @vegandthecity
As do many vegans, I eat salads all the time.  Probably at least one a day, if not two.  Thankfully I love vegetables, and am willing to mix and match ingredients to maximize variety, but mixing up that dressing is pretty critical for preventing boredom too.
I am not a big fan of creamy dressings but I love a good vinegar!  Balsamic or white wine with your favorite herbs, and a touch of regular or infused oil, can make way for major flavor shifts.  One of the healthiest of the vinegars is Apple Cider.  As we all settle into (or become lax in following) our resolutions for 2014, it is also a great assistant if one of your goals is weight loss or healthier eating in general.

Apple cider, maybe due to the apples doctors love from which it comes, has tremendous health advantages – relief from rashes, stings and burns, sore throats, chest congestion, and more.  Instead of buying those expensive fruit washes, you can use a 10%:90% ratio of the vinegar and water as a cleaner.  It also helps aid in digestion.  An ounce of the vinegar in 8 ounces of water will help to start your day, help your body detox, and get your body up and running ~ similar to the way hot water with lemon can assist as well.  Be sure to dilute it though – it’s strong stuff!
Apple cider vinegar, and items made with it, are available at Butterfield Market.  Stop in to pick some up, or check out your local marketplace, and grab some other healthy items to kick off spring on the right foot!
