Most digital billboards are capable of full-motion video, but local ordinances prevent out-of-home companies from using it. Olympus Media is fortunate enough to be able to showcase video on their digital billboards in Missouri. They use this power for good in the form of an anti-smoking campaign.

In the video, a cigarette quickly burns down while different life milestones appear and almost immediately fade away into a puff of smoke. This technique puts the shortness of life in perspective. Conceptually, it’s nothing we haven’t heard before, but the execution is extremely well done. To me, this looks like the work of a professional motion graphics company not an out-of-home company. Olympus’ creative director, Shannon Bromley, has built a team with diverse talents such as this. A very nice option to have in your bag of tricks.
