Anna Faris is on the promotional trail for her upcoming animated flick The Emoji Movie, a/k/a Bringing Us One Step Closer to Idiocracy IRL. I mean really, why? Sorry, had to rant. The 40-year-old actress spoke with Bustle about the movie (which comes out this Friday) where she plays a hacker who guides two emojis, voiced by TJ Miller (You gave up Silicon Valley for this? For shame, TJ) and James Corden, through a smartphone adventure. People got paid to write this script, you guys.
When asked which emoji she most identified with, she said a dagger – with hubby Chris Pratt as an eagle and the couple’s adorable son Jack as a smiley face. When the discussion went to the couple’s fans, who see them as the epitome of #relationshipgoals, Anna acknowledged that it was “f*cking weird” and also talked about the role of social media in her family’s life, focusing on the fact that they often share photos of their son.
On being called “relationship goals” with husband Chris Pratt:
“It’s really f*cking weird. It’s wonderful, but you kind of feel like you’re the little things on top of a massive wedding cake… I love being in love, and I love that our relationship inspires people. And Chris and I laugh all the time — we have this amazing inside joke about how we’re just a couple of hometown kids who sort of stumbled into this weirdness, and I love that we can look at each other and be like, ‘ah, yup, this is crazy.’”
Joking about the pressure to keep their public image up:
“That’s why I straddle him on the red carpet and just ride him into the sunset.”
On sharing photos of her family on social media:
“It was a long struggle. We’ve struggled with the idea of is this fair to Jack, to post photos of him. But when other people are outside your house, taking photos of you… it’s an attempt to take back control.”
On her son watching The Emoji Movie:
“I love that my son will be able to see The Emoji Movie and he’ll be like, ‘Mommy, that’s you!’ Or he’ll be like, ‘Mommy? That sounds like you, but doesn’t look like you.”

The Emoji Movie had its premiere on Sunday in Los Angeles and Anna brought her four-year-old son as her date. That is one adorable kid and he’s already got his red carpet poses down, giving a thumbs up to the photographers. Anna was concerned about taking her boy to his first red caret premiere, telling Entertainment Tonight “it’s also terrifying to bring your kid to such a public event.” She also noted that “I guess he loves attention just like mommy.” If your parents are Chris Pratt and Anna Faris, you’re bound to have more than a little ham in you.
I used to really like Anna and Chris until I learned about their poor, abandoned puppy. I’m a dog lover, so I may be overly sensitive, but that’s not cool. I get what she said about posting pics of Jack though. They are just proud parents, and God knows I’ve seen a bajillion pictures of my friends’ kids on social media. I also think tagging celebrity unions as #relationshipgoals is unrealistic. Sure, I joke about it, only because my true #relationshipgoal is to marry Jon Hamm, but the fans can’t possibly know what goes on once the smartphones are put away. We all (I’m guilty of it, I’ll admit it) always post the “good stuff” when we all know there’s “bad stuff” too. If they are a strong enough couple to be seen as aspirational, more power to them, I guess.
