All About Watches & Wonders

By Raymondleejewelers @raymondleejwlrs

Watches will forever be one of the most critical, pivotal, and characteristically unique pieces of jewelry that anyone can wear. These pieces can at once tell others about the designer, the wearer, or even the time and place that the watch was purchased. Over the years the wristwatch has become something of a work of art rather than the practical piece it started out as. These pieces are as much a statement about poise, grace, and wealth as your car, home, or clothes. Watches are a thing of beauty that just about everyone owns or has owned at some point in time.

Watches and Wonders is an exhibit devoted to both old and new designs which makes it an incredibly moving display of man’s feats. This exhibit displays some of the priciest, most innovative, and most beautiful time pieces that have been created. With displays of watches like the Audemars Piguet Millenary Minute Repeater, and pieces by designers like Baume & Mercier, Cartier, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Piaget, Richard Mille, Roger Dubuis, Vacheron Constantin and Van Cleef & Arpels, this exhibition has something for everyone.

The exhibit is housed in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and was organized and hosted by the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH). The exhibition ran from September 24-27 and greeted guests from all over the world. It is not common that great designs of this like are housed in one place but this exhibit was one of a kind for a reason. The exhibition allowed attendees to see pieces that are one of a kind, in production, past production, and new concept pieces that have not yet been developed for consumption by the public. Though these watches are all incredibly pricey, they are also incredibly interesting and beautiful to look at.

The exhibition strove to show viewers that the world of the wristwatch is so much more than simple fobs and faces, rather, the world of the wristwatch requires finesse, art, and creative vision. These pieces are incredibly fascinating to look at and are sure to inspire other watch makers as well as the every man. This was the largest event of its kind in South East Asia and housed some of the foremost designers and watchmakers in the world. Unlike some exhibits, this gathering catered to designers from all over the world to give a succinct and wide arching view of the world of the modern wristwatch.

There is no news yet as to whether the United States will host an exhibit of these likes or if the exhibition will move to another city to allow more people to see it. For those that are interested in not only the beauty of the wristwatch as it qualifies as a piece of jewelry, but also those that are fascinated by the inner workings and dedication that it takes to complete these fine works of art. The exhibition gave viewers the chance to become part of the world of fine watchmakers to see not only what they were missing, but what it took to create it.
