JEJUNE – Air Drops

Lots of people talk about music being the “soundtrack to their lives”, and while it’s true that certain songs and lyrics seem to perfectly capture the daily trials and emotions of the human condition, life’s more mundane activities could use some background tunes as well. Enter Air Drops (@air_drops), the project of a mysteriously elusive 21-year-old college student from Pennsylvania. Air Drops creates song structures that give an equal amount of weight to every element. Even vocals are treated as an additional instrument, blending into the overall landscape of the song rather than serving as a main focal point. Songs like this are the perfect accompaniment to the humdrum repetition of your daily routine.

Air Drops will release a debut EP on February 29th, but we’re bringing you a premiere of track “JEJUNE” right here, right now. From this sample, it’s easy to see how the Air Drops sound originated as a beat production project. After about a minute of pulsating waves of electronica, the beat drops and the song eventually turns into an exploration of jumping synths plus worldly African-influenced percussion. “JEJUNE” is subtle in its reiteration, yet bold in its uniqueness. It’s a great teaser for the remainder of the EP.
