Story
Dhoom 3 is the story of Saahir-the clown (Aamir Khan) who wants to take revenge for the death of his father. He plans a series of robberies and escapes successfully. Jai (Abhishek Bachchan) and Ali (Uday Chopra) enter into Chicago to catch the thief and do they catch the thief or not is what Dhoom 3 is all about.
Performances
Aamir Khan breathes life into the character of Saahir with his performance. The actor in Aamir Khan once again comes to the fore at many crucial moments in the film taking the breath away and leaving everyone else under his spell.
Abhishek Bachchan looks fit for a change. He acts well as usual in his understated fashion. His scenes and chemistry with Aamir Khan came out well in comparison to his combination scenes in his previous Dhoom film.
Katrina Kaif is related to only circus performance throughout the film. One would be hard pressed to find a scene in the film that involves her in the capacity of an actress.
Uday Chopra repeats his act from previous films in the series, the problem is unlike others he is getting repetitive and old with his jokes. Jackie Shroff does a fine job in the limited time and scope that is available to him.

Analysis
Dhoom 3 at the very beginning itself sets the story in motion with the flashback part. However it comes to a screeching halt, even as long chases continue, till about the interval mark, where it again resumes. From the interval till the pre climax Dhoom 3 is a rollercoaster ride of emotions, which is where this part actually differs from the previous Dhoom films. At the core of the film there is a great emotion which forms the base of the film and also the highlight of the film thanks to Aamir Khan’s performance. This portion which involves emotional investment is something that could be a turn off for a segment of audience as well, as they come to a Dhoom film to simply enjoy it without any emotional bubble.
Director Vijay Krishna Acharya after a debacle in the first outing keeps things simple and silly at the same time that provides amusement during the action scenes and engagement in the rest of the proceedings. He gets his characters right too unlike his debut attempt. All in all a great improvement for the director after his debut for sure.
Music by Pritam is alright, nothing exceptional here. However background music by Julius Pickiam is excellent and gives the film a great momentum whenever necessary. Editing could have been better. Choreography of couple of songs Malang and Tu Hi Junoon is superb. Cinematography is excellent and the production values by Yash Raj Films are grand. As far as action scenes go, Yash Raj Films had done it better in Ek Tha Tiger.
Bottom-line: the clown steals the hearts
