A USB Drive Designed to Destroy Computers

Posted on the 13 March 2015 by Nrjperera @nrjperera

A Russian hacker has found a way to finally get revenge on his enemies, by mercilessly frying their computers with this Killer USB drive.

Basically, what this USB drive does is it sends a high-voltage charge to your computer through the USB port, burning every piece of vulnerable hardware in the computer.

Here’s what it does -:

“When we connect it up to the USB port, an inverting DC/DC converter runs and charges capacitors to -110V. When the voltage is reached, the DC/DC is switched off. At the same time, the filed transistor opens. It is used to apply the -110V to signal lines of the USB interface. When the voltage on capacitors increases to -7V, the transistor closes and the DC/DC starts. The loop runs till everything possible is broken down,” according to Kukuruku.

If you buy USB drives off eBay or handle a lot of flash drives from your friends, it’s time for you to take precautions. The hacker doesn’t share details on how to create this USB drive, but people are asking him for a Kickstarter campaign. Who knows, it could happen.
