The last few weeks Little Miss A has been trying out the Leapfrog Musical Rainbow Tea Party which we were sent to review from Babies R Us as part of their Babyologist programme.

The tea set includes a teapot with sounds and lights, two teacups together with a 6 slice cake on a plate.

The main part of the toy is the tea pot which lights up and includes over 50 songs, phrases and ‘tea party’ sounds.  It is very easy to use for young children and can be activated by pressing the heart button, opening the lid or simply tipping the pot.

The toy is fantastic for teaching colours, matching and counting as well as helping with fine motor skills.

Colours and Matching

The tea pot lights up with the six different colours from the slices of ‘cake’ and asks children to match the cake to the coloured ‘tea’ that is brewing.

Counting

The tea pot asks children to pour a certain number of cups of tea and tells them how many cups are left in the pot.  Once the pot is empty they have to press the button to ‘brew’ more.

Fine Motor Skills

Children can improve their fine motor skills by pouring the tea into the two cups and also by placing the slices of cake back onto the plate.

What does Little Miss A think?

Little Miss A has been having a lot of fun with this toy.  Although she doesn’t understand all of the various features such as the color matching yet, this has not stopped her enjoying the toy at all.  She loves the sounds the tea pot makes and really enjoys pouring cups of tea and pretending to drink it!

Since having the toy she has also learnt a new word – ‘tea’!

It is a very well loved toy and one which I can see her playing with for a long time to come, especially when she gets her Christmas present from her Grandparents (a wooden kitchen!).  It is really helping to improve her imaginative play as well as improving her motor skills and language.

What do I think?

I am very impressed with this toy.  It is very easy for Little Miss A to use and she will sit for some time and play with it.

I am really pleased with the quality of the tea pot and accessories.  The slices of cake are a great size and made from very strong plastic so will withstand lots of play.

I really like the fact that there are so many different learning aspects to the toy as well as it being great fun.  I think it will really help Little Miss A with her color matching and counting skills as she gets older and think it really is a toy that will grow with her.

The toy is aimed at children aged 1+ which I consider to be about right, however, I do think younger children would enjoy the sounds and lights of the tea pot and none of the pieces are small enough to be put entirely in a young child’s mouth.

With an RRP of around £20 I think this is extremely reasonable and very good value for money for the amount of learning and fun that can be gained from this toy.

Little Miss A and I would highly recommend this tea set to any young toddler!
