Is it Barenaked Ladies? Is it Mika? Maybe Glee… nope it is ‘A Great Big World!’ They’re from New York and they’re writing a musical…you would never have guessed it from this song. They are Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino. They’ve already made it big state side after dueting with Christina Aguilera on The Voice. They are sickeningly American, from the, ‘jazz hands’ school of entertainment. Don’t let it put you off though, their song is pretty good, just, you know a bit heavy on the glitter, tits and teeth.
So ‘Rockstar’, in which the major line is, ‘I was born to be a Rockstar’. It’s a song about an underdog becoming famous, shocking! But yet, it’s a well written, well structured song with wonderful harmonies. They’re musical training is so obvious it hurts. You have your piano, then guitar and drums to emphasize and some beautiful harmonies in quite strong American accents. I’m taking bets on how long it willtake Glee to produce a cover version.
Verdict: Musically good but utterly annoying!
