9 Reasons Why Talk to Me is the Next Big Horror Franchise
Talk to Me has hit the big screen and left the audience quivering in fear. Danny and Michael Philippou have given the audience a new horror movie that is begging for a chance to be explored deeper. While this is an original movie, if it goes on to make money, it will 100% be getting a sequel or two because of how much more is left to explore.
We don’t always need a sequel, or a franchise spawning from every original movie made. However, I have certain ideas for what I would like to see more of in the future. The non-spoiler review can be found here.
Here are the reasons why Talk to Me is about to become the next big horror franchise. It isn’t a ranking list, just a few ideas that are numbered.

Talk to Me is the Next Big Horror Franchise
1 – Viral
One of the major factors behind Mia getting into the game is the viral opportunity it offered up. However, the movie doesn’t give us a chance to see how viral it has gone. It seems to keep everything between the friends from a school, or at least the school group. This could open the door to almost anywhere being a location for the next movie or any future movies. This is also hinted at in the final scene of the movie, as Mia joins another group playing the game.
2 – History of the Hand
During Talk to Me, we get a few hints at where the hand has come from, but for the most part, it feels like we only touched the surface. It seemed to hint at a couple of ideas, which opens up the idea for many more. With how the movie unfolded, it feels like it is only a matter of time before we could get to dive further into the origin of the hand. This could come from a fall blow prequel or meeting people that are connected deeper with the history. Another part of the story we could learn so much more from.
3 – Mia
Mia is the character that gets most attached to the hand. She wants to use it to connect to her deceased mother and believes she has. However, she learns the truth about what has happened and becomes consumed with learning more. After her best friend’s little brother has the most dangerous encounter, she learns the horrors he is really going through. She sets out to free him believing killing him will save him. However, in a last-minute twist, she kills herself and sees the world return to normal. A world without her in it. she finds herself becoming a spirit that makes contact with someone playing the game.
However, the big question here is simple. Is she really dead, or trapped between worlds? While the obvious answer is she is dead, this could easily be a way to put it out there that the people are lost souls searching for new hosts. A lot like what Insidious’ spirits are trying to do. While a lot of this is farfetched, it could easily see us get to learn more about Mia and the world her spirit is trapped in. Even if we follow her journey through the spirit world.
4 – Riley’s Side Effects
Riley is the younger brother that gets possessed and seriously injured by the spirit. His psychical injuries would be life-changing, but the bigger reality we would be facing is his mental scars. We get to see the horror world Riley has become trapped in, which would feel like an eternity. There is no way he can go on to live a normal life yet, however, he could want to get to know what happened. This could take Riley in a range of directions. One could include him trying to connect to Mia. Another could see him going down a darker path by hosting more parties and pushing people to their limits. There is a lot we could see happen with Riley in the future.
5 – The Hand
We have mentioned the history of the hand, but another factor we could dive into is in how the contact is made. This can be seen in the movie, with the sequence when Riley plays the game. During the sequence, Mia joins the hand contact, which could have even started off the string of events. By holding the hand in a different way, we could see different results.
6 – Psychic Connection
When we see the party guests playing the game, we find everything feels pretty routine. They meet the spirit, let it is and do something weird. However, one major factor we never see happen is communication with the spirit. This changes when Mia starts trying to communicate with her mother and later a random spirit who reverse it on her. We have an option for somebody to want to use the hand to start channelling certain spirits. Almost controlling the experience, using it to solve crimes or a crime. This could dive into a mix of The Sixth Sense and a lot of the movies that focus on ghosts guiding people.
7 – Police Investigation
This might well be the least scary of the ideas, but you would like to think some form of police investigation might happen. This could come from a detective being a relative of somebody who goes too far in connection or many other options. The idea would bring more serious credibility to the person searching for answers. This could show us much like how Smile did last year that a character who doesn’t believe in the supernatural, could in fact start to believe.
8 – The Next Generation
One of the characters we don’t see get flushed out as much as we could is James. He is Riley’s best friend and is seen pushing him into different activities. Regardless of what has happened, the character comes off as if they would want to take over hosting the parties in the future. His connection to Riley could bring the clash over whether they should, and we end up with something much bigger than anyone could have expected.
9 – They Let You In
The whole point of the game is that you let the spirit into your body. However, during the hunt for the truth to save Riley. Mia comes in contact with a young girl spirit that reverses the game, by letting her into her vision of the afterlife. Where we could see things change is by seeing Mia or other spirits know about the game and steal the souls. Although, we could even go in the direction that it becomes an even bigger fix than the current form.
