a milestone birthday for my father-in-law... marked in 'arroz doce'

My father-in-law celebrated a milestone birthday, while my mother-in-law fed the clan to the gills at Mother-in-Law Restaurante, as is her custom. It started out as lunch, but it stretched all the way to dinner!

Incidentally, it was my father-in-law’s 72nd birthday in 2014 that sparked the post which remains my most popular in Portugal thus far: Parabéns a Você (Happy Birthday). Here’s 73. (We were in Galicia for 74). My own father celebrated his birthday milestone (80!) last month, which makes it easy to remember my father-in-law’s age as they’re five years apart, the same difference between Paulo and me. Which also means Paulo is hitting a milestone age this year. But I’m getting ahead of myself — it’s still April.

Ahem. Let’s get back to the FOOD: you’ll see appearances of pudim molotov (egg white flan), arroz doce (similar to rice pudding), and further down there is cabrito assado (roasted young goat). Of course, Ice the Dog makes an appearance, too. Where there is food, there is his face.
