5 Places To Get Your Smart On In And Around L.A

By Heather Hahn @HeatherHahnn

Since moving to Los Angeles almost 6 years ago, I still have yet to explore the majority of what this city has to offer, and all of the different parts of California that you have the access to visit to.

I’ll admit that I am a M A J O R homebody on the weekends, because I like to avoid the nonsense traffic, but every once in a while, i’m totally fine going out every now and then.

Los Angeles is filled with amazing eatery’s, art all around the city, and a TON of beautiful architectural museums as well.

The great thing about the museums here too is that if you’re not too ‘keen’ on a specific type of art, you have the option of visiting a museum that caters to a particular category of art.

So, with that being said, I partnered up with one of my favorite sites to look for apartments around the Los Angeles area, ApartmentGuide.Com to share with you some of my favorite destinations in Los Angeles to get your smart on.

A little side note to add to that, is that I actually found my very first apartment when I moved to Los Angeles at 18 years old, off of ApartmentGuide.Com.

1. The Getty Center

When I first went to ‘The Getty Center‘ on Sepulveda Blvd, I was blown away.

From all of the art pieces in the different buildings, to the architecture around the museum, to the gardens, The Getty Center is a place that you never want to leave.

Not to mention the incredible views that you can see overlooking the entire city of Los Angeles.

As far as art is concerned that The Getty Center has to offer, they offer an array of European and American Art from Medieval times to present.

Some of my favorite art to view is their Permanent Collection, which consists of pre-20th-century European paintings, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, sculptures, and decorative arts.

Another one of my favorites is their ‘Outdoor Sculptures’ and Robert Irwin’s Central Garden, which is absolutely breathtaking. If you’re looking for some quite time away from the city, then The Garden at The Getty Center is the most perfect place to go to.

2. The West Hollywood Public Library

The West Hollywood Public Library was one of the first public library’s that I had visited since I moved to Los Angeles.

It’s one of my favorite library’s because it’s close to restaurants, and in a walk-able distance to other public places in the area.

It has beautiful landscaping, fantastic views of the city of West Hollywood, and more importantly plenty of silent space to get your work and reading done.

You also have accessibility to their public computers, a quiet cafe to drink coffee at downstairs from the library, and so many different reading spaces.

Out of all of the public library’s in and around Los Angeles, this is the library that I recommend the most.

3.  The Broad Museum

I haven’t personally been to The Broad Museum yet, but I have plenty of friends that have.

The Broad Museum consists of more modern art pieces and artwork, but it also has a variety of different installations as well, which are pretty neat to take a look at.

They have installations from Jeff Koons, Mark Bradford, Ed Ruscha, Doug Aitken, and many others.

The museum itself only opened up just a few months ago, so it’s fresh, new and a must place to visit on the weekends.

Not to mention that it’s also close and near to ‘The Walt Disney Concert Hall’, ‘Grand Park’, ‘Mocha’, and ‘LA’s Central Library’.

LACMA, The Los Angeles County Museum Of Art is another one of my all time favorite places to go to around Los Angeles.

With L.A having so many different museums, the LACMA is really a total switch up from the rest.

One of my favorite installations from LACMA are these light posts, right outside of the museum itself.

Also from time to time they actually have ‘Featured Exhibitions’ like The Rain Room and Miracle Mile, which I personally enjoy myself.

5. California Science Center

Growing up as a kid, one of my all time favorite places to visit was always ‘The Science Center’.

I just always loved the fact that everything was so hands on.

The California Science Center is a great place to go to if you’re going to be attending as a family, or with your kids.

Some of my favorite exhibits they have there are: The Journey To Space Exhibit, Mission 26, and Tiny House.
